8 days in Kenya and Tanzania is the best safari experience that gives you more wildlife experience in two separate countries. This itinerary is designed to maximise your game viewing opportunities, taking you from the open savannahs of the Maasai Mara in Kenya to the endless Serengeti National Park and dramatic landscapes of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Over eight thrilling days, you will witness the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) in their natural habitats and experience some of the most breathtaking scenery on Earth. 

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve.

On the first day of the safari, you will be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi or from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by your safari guide, who will then welcome you and brief you about the safari and then begin your scenic drive to Maasai Mara upon your arrival.

You will check in and enjoy lunch. After lunch, go on a game drive to search for the reserve’s incredible wildlife, including the famous Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo). Return to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and an overnight stay. 

Day 2: Game drive and Maasai village tours in Maasai Mara National Reserve.

After breakfast, you head for a morning game drive in the Maasai Mara on a Kenya safari to witness the famous Big Five (lion, buffalo, rhino, elephant and leopard), as well as other animal species and a variety of bird species, and if it’s the season from July to October, you can watch the annual great migration on the Mara River.

Return to the lodge for lunch; after lunch, you will go for Maasai village tours and visit them in their traditional homes (manyattas), interact with them, and enjoy their dances and songs. Return to the lodge for dinner, relaxation and an overnight stay. 

Day 3: Hot air balloon and game drives in Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Wake up early in the morning for a rewarding hot air balloon ride over the plains of Maasai Mara, with the aerial views of the wildlife and landscape views of the savanna plains scattered with acacia trees as you take in the perfect sunrises over the Mara. You will end your hot air balloon ride with a champagne breakfast in the wilderness.

After the hot air balloon safari experience, you will enjoy the game drives on the Mara plains and among many others to spot the park’s diverse animals. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay as above. 

Day 4: Drive to Serengeti National Park.

After an early breakfast, check out from your lodge, and you will drive towards the Isebania border with en-route game viewing of the early risers. Your Kenya safari guide will hand you over to the Tanzania safari guide.

You will clear your immigration and then begin your journey to Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival, check in for lunch. After going for a game drive, return to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and an overnight stay. 

Day 5: Full day in Serengeti National Park.

After your breakfast, you will explore Serengeti with both a morning and an afternoon game drive with your lunch boxes to spot the various wildlife, like Thomson’s gazelles, topis, cheetahs, lions, and others. You will head to the visitor’s centre after your game drive and enjoy your lunch along with the incredible wildlife.

After taking a game drive to the kopjes, they offer you a viewing of the lions, especially during dry seasons when most animals visit to cool off and drink. Drive back for dinner and spend the night as before.

Day 6: Transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area.

After breakfast, together with your packed lunch, you will check out and begin your journey from Serengeti with an en-route game drive; you will enjoy your packed lunch along the way.

Upon your arrival, you will begin your guided walking safari across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area; you will experience nature and wildlife up close before being transferred to your lodge.

Day 7: Full-day Ngorongoro Crater Drive.

After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, you will experience a half-day safari tour that takes you over 600 metres down into the crater to see wildlife. You will see herds of wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, elands, warthogs, hippos, elephants, and many more; later, you will enjoy your picnic lunch.

After lunch, you visit Lake Magadi; this is a big, shallow alkaline lake in the southwest that you will also explore. You will see flamingos, hippos, and other aquatic birds. After that, you will make the drive to the lodge to spend the night and have dinner.

Day 8: Maasai Boma Visit and Departure.

After breakfast at the lodge, check out and visit Maasai bomas, where you will meet the Maasai people who once coexisted with the wild game of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is part of the Serengeti. After proceeding with a transfer back to Arusha, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation or the airport in preparation for your departure, which ends the 8 days Kenya and Tanzania Best Safari.
